John 1: 6-16

Read John 1: 6-16      John the Baptist was an unusual, bold, and great person with a distinct purpose.  John was reported to be a man who basically lived off the land.  He was proud of his faith in God.  He shouted his message to all who would listen and to some who did not want to be bothered.  We might say John the Baptist was a piece of work.  He was God’s piece of work.  God created John the Baptist to be His town crier to the world of the Jews and Gentiles at the time of Jesus.   John the Baptist caught people’s attention, but he was not considered credible by many.   That did not change John the Baptist’s message.   He knew what his mission was.   He knew who Jesus was and recognized his own place in the grand plan of God.   He was a messenger.   This tells me that John the Baptist knew the scriptures available to the people at that time.   He believed what he heard and lived what he heard.   It ...

John 1: 1-5

  Read  John 1: 1-5-        John’s introduction of what he was about to write was written so no one would question what it was about.  John was an uneducated fisherman who was called by Jesus directly into following Him and being one of a select few men who would be asked to follow and then spread Jesus’ message to all he met.  John dealt directly with who Jesus was.  Jesus was God and always had been.  Jesus is life to everything He created on earth and in the heavens.  John equates life with light and is quick to point out that wherever Jesus went, His light lingered and did not go away.  People did not forget their experiences with Jesus.  That holds true today.  People who have encountered Jesus never forget it.  Yes, there are those who steer long distances away from Jesus, but the light is always there, and they know it.  In the immediate past, there was an advertising slogan for a motel chain that sai...
