Matthew 19: 1-9- Commitment

Read Matthew 19: 1- 9-  Marriage is part of the backbone of society. God set this up in the very beginning with the relationship between Adam and Eve. Over the years,  there are those who have worked to make  marriage  less important than it was originally meant to be.  Jesus did not shy away from the men dominated society  and he taught  them this in verses 7, 8 and 9,  ‘They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?” He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you; whoever div orces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”’   We need to continue to work to show others the value of marriage and the importance of two people joining to move through life together and work to make each other better. We nee d to be examples of why marriage is important ...

Matthew 5: 31-32- Divorce

Matthew 5: 31-32- “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the grounds of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” Our society has normalized divorce. Recent statistics show half of marriages  end in divorce. Jesus showed when divorce was appropriate . This topic can get to be very complicate d . There are so many things that can figure into considering divorce and the more I think about the topic the more I find myself drawn to the action of praying for individuals who are considering divorce or are in the process of divorce so they will hopefully be influenced by the Holy Spirit through the situation. There can be so much involved in divorce, I would want the Holy Spirit to direct and comfort as much as allowed to be able to see Him in the resolution.

Matthew 5: 27-30- Lust

Read Matthew 5:27- 30 - Jesus was preaching to people over two thousand years ago. This specific topic has not changed in those two thousand years. In our society today, so many problems are caused by greed.   Lust is also an overriding problem in our society as evidenced by the sexual nature of entertainment and advertising and social media. Jesus tells us in verses 27 and 28, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shal l not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman (or a man) with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Acting is one thing, wanting to act is no different as Jesus teaches in this passage. Jesus is laying down basics of Christian beliefs but also Christian behavior. He is expecting t hose who believe in Him to exercise restraint not only in our actions but in disciplining our hearts and our thoughts. Satan has used the sexual nature of people’s lives to distract people from a sexually pure life, and w...
