Mark 7: 9-13- Tradition vs. Principles
Read M ark 7: 9- 13- This section of the chapter is a continuation of the first part of the chapter, and it again shows the religious leaders placing too much emphasis on tradition rather than the established principles of God. Verses 11, 12, and 13 say, ‘But you say, “If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God), then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.” ’ Some traditions develop for good reasons but can become more important to some people than the principles of God and Jesus is cautioning us to not lose sight of His principles.
