John 1: 6-16
Read John 1: 6-16
John the Baptist was an unusual, bold, and great person with a distinct purpose. John was reported to be a man who basically lived off the land. He was proud of his faith in God. He shouted his message to all who would listen and to some who did not want to be bothered. We might say John the Baptist was a piece of work. He was God’s piece of work. God created John the Baptist to be His town crier to the world of the Jews and Gentiles at the time of Jesus.
John the Baptist caught people’s attention, but he was not considered credible by many. That did not change John the Baptist’s message. He knew what his mission was. He knew who Jesus was and recognized his own place in the grand plan of God. He was a messenger. This tells me that John the Baptist knew the scriptures available to the people at that time. He believed what he heard and lived what he heard. It also tells me John the Baptist spent time in prayer. I would think that was the way John the Baptist knew what he was created to do in the first place. When people discover Jesus and give their lives to Him, many times they begin to wonder what Jesus would have them do. What is their new mission in life? That can only be determined by spending time listening to Jesus through prayer and reading of His Word. The power of the Holy Spirit then has an avenue to begin to reveal to each person what their new work is. Christianity is not complicated. Accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, read and study His Word the Bible, and pray for the guidance of God while we live our lives. We then worship Him with our lives.
