Mark 5: 21-24- Calling Out to God

Mark 5: 21-24- (21) And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about Him, and He was beside the sea. (22) Then came one o the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing Him, he fell at His feet (23) and implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” (24) and He went with him.

Jairus was a desperate man. One would assume since Jairus was a ruler of the synagogue, he was aware of how the religious leaders felt about Jesus and how the religious leaders wanted to silence Jesus. Obviously, Jairus had seen the hand of Jesus work at some point in time. Whether it was a healing, or casting out demons he had seen or heard about, Jairus found himself in a situation of life and death and he turned to Jesus.

Too many times, we are no different from Jairus. We call out to Jesus when horrible things happen even though we may have not talked to Him in ages. People know there is an ultimate authority, an ultimate authority who loves them regardless of their prior behavior and will hear their pleas. I don’t want to be the person who calls out only when something horrible is happening. I want to be closer to Jesus than that. I want to recognize His voice.

Proverbs 5: 20-23- (20) Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress? (21) For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord, and he ponders all his paths. (22) The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin. (23) He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray.
