John 1: 29-34- One Mission

1.      Read John 1: 29-34

John the Baptist had a unique mission.  He was to simply tell about the coming of Jesus.  What he experienced in this call is actually no different from the call each of us has.  We are to announce the soon coming of Jesus Christ to the world.  Let’s just say, not everyone is listening.  God the Father blessed Jesus by anointing Him and that was evidence by the descending dove to Jesus.  This was sort of like walking across the stage of graduation.  God was announcing it was time for Jesus to begin His ministry to all mankind.  God had told John the Baptist what sign to look for when he was looking for the Messiah.  John’s message changed at that moment.  He began to focus on Jesus and when he preached, it was about getting people to focus on Jesus.

We are living in a time when all the signs of the world point to the soon coming of Jesus.  There are many who have signaled this for years, however, the world continues to turn a deaf ear to the message.  Does that mean, we give up and stop sending the message?  Of course not.  Many continue to work to get people to focus on Jesus.  We can focus on Jesus and how His life can lead our lives, but we must also not lose track of the message of Jesus’ return.  We cannot afford to let society’s ills and problems diminish the message of Jesus.  How do we do that? Live our lives according to Jesus’s principles as written in the Bible and as the power of the Holy Spirit impresses us in our daily lives.  Continue to speak of Jesus’ return. As the old song says, “Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King.”
