John 11: 27-44- "Dear God..."
Read John 11: 27-44-
The raising of Lazarus from the grave is one of the most well-known events in the Bible. One thing I don’t recall anyone mentioning related to the event is what Jesus did before He commanded Lazarus to come out of the grave.
In verse 41 it says, “So they rolled the stone aside. The Jesus looked up to heaven and said, ‘Father, thank you for hearing me. (42) You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so they will believe you sent Me.’”
Jesus knew He was about to do something that would be a huge event in the people’s lives, and it would be a significant event in His ministry. Before He did anything, He prayed. Jesus prayed God would bless His actions. If Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are one, would Jesus be praying to Himself? I’m not prepared to get into the theology involved with that.
I do know we need to make a note to make sure we pray before any situation where we need or want God’s hand to be involved. To ask for the Holy Spirit to be with us in any given situation is not something to be taken lightly but, more than that, it is something that should not be forgotten by us.
