John 11: 8-11- “I Don’t Need A Crutch”

Read John 11: 8-11-

I think there is a lot to consider in the whole story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.  There is the actual act of defying death.  There is the timing of the resurrection of Lazarus.  There is the location where all of this happened.  There is the potential impact on the Romans.  There is also a section early in the story where I think Jesus gives us some indication about how He is able to help us when we need it, whether we know it or not.

Take these verses, “(9) Jesus replied, ‘There are twelve hours of daylight every day.  As long as it is light people can walk safely.  They can see because they have the light of this world. (10) Only at night is there danger of stumbling because there is no light.”

There are those people who opened say they do not have a need for religion or for God because they can take care of the things of life just fine without having religion or God available as a crutch.  While they are walking in the daylight of their lives, they are probably correct.  There will come a time however when the lights will go out and they will find themselves wondering what they should do or what is going to happen because all of a sudden, they can’t see everything.

That’s where the life in Jesus takes hold and Jesus helps us to see what is going on in the dark and helps us to determine the correct path to take so we don’t end up on our faces wondering what happened.  I have many times wondered what a good response to those who feel they are enough in themselves to deal with life and don’t need any Jesus directed help.  Now we know.  If we really consider what the Bible has given us, we will find God has provided the answers we need.
