I John 3: 21-24- Love One Another First
Read I John 3: 21-24-
“And this is His commandment; we must believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.”
Verse 28 is simple. It tells us we should love one another as Jesus commands us to do. So many are talking about love today. What they are really saying is this, “If you agree with me, then that shows you love me. If you agree with how I want to live my life, then you love me. If you don’t agree with me and how I live my life, then you don’t love me.”
John is telling us to love each other first, not conditionally. Jesus wants us to love first. That does not mean we do not love someone if we stand on Biblical principles and challenge someone to live according to those principles. We need to be careful in standing on those Biblical principles because we are all human and have all fallen short in some way, but we cannot use that as an excuse to not work to live as God would have us to live. There should not be contention in these conversations because if we truly love others, that will cover all our conversations and our approach to any other person.
