Matthew 5: 21-22- Murder and Anger

Matthew 5: 21-22-

Jesus changed how we were to look at the religious laws of the time. This is a perfect example how we need to pay close attention to what Jesus says and how we can overlay this type of thinking in our daily lives.

Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’, will be liable to the hell of fire.”

Jesus is preaching to the people about their motivation as much as their actions. Jesus is not saying murder is not to be judged, He is telling us even our anger toward someone else is a problem we need to correct.  We need to be careful to examine our motivations and our actions with other people, so our testimony of following Christ has broad impact. Examining our emotions such as anger and looking at our motivations will help us live a more peaceful life.
