Matthew 20: 20-23- Know What We're Asking

Read Matthew 20: 20-23-

I do not know what James and John’s mother’s motivation was. She may have been wanting her sons to be in a position of power for her sake. She may have been wanting to make sure her sons were not left out of a perceived “kingdom” she thought would take the place of Rome. Jesus did know her motivation and He had to adjust their expectations.

In verses 20 through 22 we read this, ‘Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to Him, “We are able.” He said to the, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”’

I need to understand God has a place for everyone. James and John and their mother did not fully realize what they were asking but they already had a special place with God. Our place with God may not be wildly public or have great perceived power, but God has a special place for all of us who believe in Him. We need to relax and know God will be there for us as we live and move through all God has for us.
