Mark 1: 21-28- Speaking With Authority

Read Mark 1: 21-28- 

Where do we get our spiritual teaching and preaching? People sometimes get caught up in following a personality from the pulpit or focus on how professional a presentation is rather than the content of what is being presented. The people listening to Jesus in the synagogue heard a lot of speakers, but they had never heard anyone speak about the speakers like Jesus did. Verses 27 and 28 say, ‘And they were all amazed, so they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” and at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.’ 

 I want to make sure I am listening to the content of the teaching I hear and if that teaching is accurate to the teaching of the Bible and being delivered with authority and passion. We can gain that confidence if we are sure our beliefs are founded on Jesus Christ.  

Proverbs 3: 1-2- My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.

Matthew 8: 22-27- How Big is My God?

Read Matthew 8: 22- 27- This is a common passage many preachers like to talk about when it comes to life’s trials.  In verses 26 and 27 Jesus said this, ‘And He said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sor t of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him.”’ I ask myself this question today, “How little is my faith?” The disciples asked why sort of man is this . I need to ask myself what sort of man is this ?   I need to be asking how big is my God? When life’s issues arise, I need to realize Jesus Christ is much bigger than my issues. I need to believe Jesus Christ will be helping me through these issues and I need to allow His peace to work through me in those situations. We do not fully realize how big our God is.

John 6: 22-59- What's My Motivation?

        Read   John 6: 22-59-       There is so much in this section of the book.   I think verses 22 through 27 address the motivation of the people.   As a way of immediately getting their attention, He calls them out.   (26) Jesus replied, “The truth is, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you saw the miraculous sign.” That tells me the people were looking for a free lunch.   It maybe they were extremely poor and did not know where their next meal was coming.   It maybe they were just looking for free food because they didn’t have anything better to do.   Who knows? Jesus knew what they did need to hear though.   (27) But you shouldn’t be so concerned about perishable things like food.   Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that I, the Son of Man, can give you.
