Mark 8: 34-38- Do Not Be Ashamed

Mark 8: 34-38- (34) When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (35) For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. (36) For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (37) Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (38) For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

In the short passage is one of the most often quoted passages. Why is that? Jesus is telling the disciples and telling us how God has planned thing in this universe. Jesus wants to see our dedication and commitment to Him. There is also the other hand of justice that is present in this passage. Verse 38 speaks to accepting Jesus or being ashamed of Jesus or denying Jesus into our lives. Jesus noted there will be a time when Jesus will also be ashamed of us if we do not accept Him.  This is not a threat but it a description of the plan God has put into place for our eternal lives.

I need to remember this when I am tempted by so many bad things this world has to offer, I need to remember Jesus’ love for me and how I need to respect Jesus’ principles while never forgetting His love for me.

Proverbs 8: 17-19- (17) I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. (18) Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness. (19) My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver.
