Mark 9: 1-20- Seeing Jesus as My Motivation

Read Mark 9: 1-10

Three of the disciples were with Jesus when He was transfigured and rose from the earth. He then spoke with Elijah and Moses who appeared with Jesus. How earth shattering is this whole scene? Of this passage, there are two key verses. In verse seven we read this, ‘And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, Hear Him!”’ This statement was for the disciples.  This statement is for us. We need to listen acutely to what Jesus has said.

The second key message is in verse nine, “Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.” This is the first these three disciples had heard from Jesus about rising from the dead. That meant He would die. These three disciples had an earth-shaking event. First, they see Jesus transfigured and speaking with Elijah and Moses and then they hear Jesus saying He would rise from the dead.

How would I have responded to this single event?  For me, this gives credibility to who Jesus really is. There are documented sightings of Jesus following His resurrection. We have consistency in the Bible of Jesus’ life and the events of the Bible. There are so many truths and growing instances of proof of the life of Jesus Christ, I must realize the truth of Jesus Christ and use this as my motivation to continue in my belief and in my effort to work for Jesus’ kingdom.

Proverbs 8: 20-22- Pertaining to wisdom, “(20) I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice. (21) That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries. (22) The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.”
