Luke 3: 10-14- Focusing on Others

Read Luke 3: 10-14- 

In this passage we see a lesson in Christian living. First, we see the people asking specifically what they can do to be better people. Verse 11 says, ‘He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”’ 

John the Baptist gave the people examples of what they can do, and it involves helping other people. More than that, it involves being aware of the needs of those around us and doing what is within our capabilities to try to meet those needs. This requires us to be different than many people in the world today and that is focusing on other people rather than focusing on ourselves. We need to be more outward aware and focused and understand if we do that; it will in turn help us. That is the way God has designed for this to all work. 

Proverbs 11:30-The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.

Matthew 8: 22-27- How Big is My God?

Read Matthew 8: 22- 27- This is a common passage many preachers like to talk about when it comes to life’s trials.  In verses 26 and 27 Jesus said this, ‘And He said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sor t of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him.”’ I ask myself this question today, “How little is my faith?” The disciples asked why sort of man is this . I need to ask myself what sort of man is this ?   I need to be asking how big is my God? When life’s issues arise, I need to realize Jesus Christ is much bigger than my issues. I need to believe Jesus Christ will be helping me through these issues and I need to allow His peace to work through me in those situations. We do not fully realize how big our God is.

John 6: 22-59- What's My Motivation?

        Read   John 6: 22-59-       There is so much in this section of the book.   I think verses 22 through 27 address the motivation of the people.   As a way of immediately getting their attention, He calls them out.   (26) Jesus replied, “The truth is, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you saw the miraculous sign.” That tells me the people were looking for a free lunch.   It maybe they were extremely poor and did not know where their next meal was coming.   It maybe they were just looking for free food because they didn’t have anything better to do.   Who knows? Jesus knew what they did need to hear though.   (27) But you shouldn’t be so concerned about perishable things like food.   Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that I, the Son of Man, can give you.
