Luke 8: 1-3- Meeting Needs

Luke 8:1-3- Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, (2) and certain women who had been healed or evil spirits and infirmities; Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, (3) and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

Why was this information about women included to start this chapter? I think it is important to realize the work of women was important to all that Jesus was doing as he went from town to town. We are living in an age when women are taking large roles in churches and leadership in churches and religious organizations. We can argue about what roles women can serve and what roles may be “off limits” but we need to not lose sight that all the work is important regardless of what the work is. We need to focus on the needs that need to be met. If tables need to be cleaned after feeding homeless people, I need to be prepared to clean the tables.  Whether male or female does not matter as much as meeting the needs of those around us.

Proverbs 12:27- The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, but diligence is man’s precious possession.
