Luke 12: 54-59- Litigious Mentality
Read Luke 12: 54-59-
Jesus continues to confront the religious leaders and teach the people. Jesus then ventures into the legal mentality of many people. In verse 58 Jesus says, “When you go with your adversary to the magistrate make every effort along the way to settle with him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.”
This is an interesting directive coming to us from two thousand years ago. Obviously, there were problems with people thinking about litigious activities rather than working with someone we have legal conflicts with. Jesus is telling us to do everything we can to find our own solutions to legal conflicts with someone else and avoid letting the legal system decide our fates. This is a simplistic approach to these types of issues but we should apply those principles in conflicts in our lives and avoid the harshness that comes with including other people.
Proverbs 15:1- A soft answer turns away what, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
