Luke 19: 45-46- Reverence

 Luke 19: 45-46-

The religious leaders of the time had turned the pilgrimage to Jerusalem for repentance of sins into a major business. Sacrificial animals brought for sacrifice for an individual's sins would be deemed to be inadequate, and the individual would have to purchase a different sacrificial animal from the religious leaders. The religious leaders would take their initial sacrificial animal and sell it back to another person. In verses 45 and 46, Jesus acted, '(45) Then he went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it. (46) saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.'""

Jesus wanted to see the temple a place for prayer and reverence to God but as time passed, the people and religious leaders cheapened the temple but allowing other activities designed to help line their own pockets. We need to guard against our churches from becoming anything less than a place of worship. We need to work to maintain an attitude of reverence for God as we worship and not allow the casualization of society to impact how we worship God and make the worship of God something we observe while drinking coffee. We are to worship God actively.

Proverbs 16:11- Honest weights and scales are the Lord's; and the weights in the bag are His Work.
