Luke 21: 1-4- What is the State of My Giving?

Luke 21: 1-4- (1) And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, (2) and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. (3) So, he said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; (4) for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had."

This is Jesus' quintessential story on giving. We have an obligation to give to the work of the church. How much we give is not as important as that we give. The widow in this story really needed the money she gave yet she gave. Those in abundance gave but they would never miss the money they gave.

Giving is a state of the heart, and this widow knew she was obedient to God when she gave the money to the church. Jesus will reward those who follow His commands and, in this case, give even when the money being given is really needed for the events of the day. Have I examined my heart and my motivations today to determine what the actual state of my giving is?

Proverbs 16: 20-He who heeds the word wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.
